8 Filmmaking Workshops!

Registration is now open for this year’s expanded program of PCFF filmmaking workshops for ages 6 to 14.

Responding to popular demand, we are offering more hand-on workshops than ever before! Details and links to the registration site are given below.

Last year ALL the workshops sold out. Don’t wait! Register today!

All workshops will take place in the RISD Auditorium Building (Entrance on Market Square).

Saturday February 7th

Storyboard and Animation
Saturday, 9:30 – 12:30
Ages 6 – 10
Instructor: Tom Crew
Want to bring the Providence Children’s Film Festival 2015 poster to life and create the opening credits to the PCFF Workshop reel? In this class students will learn how to animate on a path to make things move in a realistic way. Watch sample films in which objects are animated under the camera, and then give it a try using cut-out elements from the 2015 poster.

LIVE ACTION! Foley and Field Audio
Saturday, 9:30 – 12:30
Ages 10 – 14

Ever wondered how a soundtrack is scored for your favorite animated movie or film? Come create sounds that will be used in the opening credits of the PCFF Workshop Reel! Learn, experiment, and create sound effects and sounds in this exciting class.

Lightpainting
Saturday, 1:00 – 4:00
Ages 10 -1 4
Instructor: Anny Guerzon
Simple flashlights become our paintbrushes in this workshop. Using a dark room, and flashlights students generate moving light with long exposure photography. Make simple, repeated shapes with light source to generate the illusion of glowing, animated light.

LIVE ACTION! Green Screen
Saturday, 1:00 – 4:00 
Ages 10 – 14 
Instructor: Carissa Abitabilo
Ever wondered how a green screen works? In this workshop students learn the fundamentals of green screening special effects and take turns filming themselves in front of a green screen first then constructing backgrounds based on their own artwork to place themselves in.

Sunday February 8th

Animation
Sunday, 9:00 – Noon
Ages 6 – 10
Instructor: Hannah Subotnick
Explore the art of object animation. In this class, make ordinary objects fly, zoom, sail, and zip around the screen. Please bring one or two of your favorite things to animate! Items must be no larger than 3 inches tall.

Lip Sync
Sunday, 9:00 – Noon
Ages 8 – 12
Instructor: Tom Ricci
Wanna make one of your drawings or photo or collaged art talk? Ever wondered how that happens? In this class learn just how to do that.  Students work in a group to animate a joke(s) for workshop reel.

LIVE ACTION! Special Effects and Camera Tricks
Sunday, 1:00 – 4:00
Ages 10 – 14
Instructor: Carissa Abitabilo
Discover the world behind practical special effects using common ingredients. Concoctions of slime, blood, and alien drool will be made in class. Learn how to use a camera to, fly, slide, and teleport.

Workshop Fee:  $48 per 3-hour workshop. Includes material and equipment fee PLUS allows student and 1 guest to attend the 2015 Youth Filmmaker Showcase free of charge.
